thursday

went to my research lab after my class. had a quick lunch just before i got on the shuttle.
got to make some PLGA nano pattern today but i failed. my patterns look so horrible.
man... hopefully i'll improve.
after my lab i went to photo club.
just a little people over there which is kind of sad. but we talked and i kind of modeled a bit.

back to my room now. have been going to my lab ever since school starts :P
busy busy and busy.
have to start my homework soon!

here are some newly uploaded photos
more new york + freelensing haha

i feel like i'm finally becoming a real bioengineer!

met people form my research lab in 316 class today.
Nicole, Cameron, and Derek.
I hope i'll get to know them more!!!

Mar 28, 2012

lab was great.

lab was great!
Lee taught me how to make PLGA and PDMS.
so many procedures! must memorize them all!!
hopefully i will do well!

wednesday

again woke up early felt tired
finished class early today. love our first lab.
and yeh i'll be heading to my research lab soon.
oh and i just learned how bit works!!!
0000 0000 is 0
0000 0001 is 1
0000 0010 is 2
0000 0011 is 3
and blah
hope it'll be helpful for my first homework assignment.

ended up doing nothing tonight...

i'm procrastinating... not good.
i have to start my homework and reading asap!!! like seriously.
but i feel so empty recently.
and i've been thinking about so many stuff lately. so many stuffs that bother me.

D:

life would be so much easier.
if i was"normal"
if i had a better looking face (by that i also mean, i hate baby face)
if i had a fitter body
if....

ok i'm going to bed now. have to wake up at 8 tomorrow.

Mar 27, 2012

second day of school

not a good day.

so i was late for the first class.
met my roommate's gf in biology class.
then i went back to my room and had lunch and packed up a bit for research lab after my class.
then had my first bioen lab. it was fun. got to play with EKG and stuff.
then i was late to my last class BIO 490
i kind of want to drop the class though... like there is assigned homework for it.
i read my email and they said my ID card for the research center was ready!! :D so excited!
then i took the shuttle to SLU hoping that the visitor center was still open.

but nope, it's close and the worst part is i couldn't even get the temporary ID card so i couldn't even get in the building. :(((
i tried to call my lab. no one picked up the phone.
i emailed the post doc, she's too busy to reply.
so i ended up walking around and had a hot chocolate and bought a sandwich.
(and had a few cigarettes... i know it's really bad for my body but trust me, i only smoke when i'm really stressed out and yes, i was really stressed out)

sad day sad day.
sigh... imma start my reading and homework now.

first day of school

it went pretty well.
though had my first class at 9:30, i did so much today.
woke up at 8:00 and took a shower and when i wanted to go back to my room, i found out that i accidentally locked myself out.... D:
i was like putting my face on my door and begging it, "please open.... ehhhhh"
so i ended up walking to terry front desk with my flip-flops and shirts and a t-shirt... so cold...
anyways, with the keys i finally got back and got ready for class.

first class was bioen 315, Biochemical and Molecular Bioengineering. it was fine. the professor is super chill. it's in the south most part of the campus. during the class, i saw a bunch of familiar faces and met Alex.
second class was bioen 316, Biomedical Signals and Sensors. it was confusing. we have to do calculations for ECG.
third class is biology 220; it is near the fountain.
so the whole class basically works all the way up the campus.
it's like the bioengineers get closer to each other. we get to see each other more often.

anyway, after all my classes, i chilled a bit in my room and had my lunch.
then i went to my research lab.
i was kind of lost and not sure whether i'm doing the right thing as a student helper...
so i just dumped away some biohazard material and threw away some boxes.
but i got to see Justin and Lee in the end. Lee is going to teach me how to make PLGA tomorrow.
yes, i'm going to the lab tomorrow after my classes which is 5:50 pm.

so after that, i went to IMA and worked out for 2 hours. :D
must gain even more muscle this quarter!!!!! >:(
so my work out schedule is probably going to be Mondays, Thursdays, and Saturdays. but i'm not sure yet. have to see how my lab schedule turns out.

Mar 25, 2012

oh no!!! school tomorrow D:

so i've been chilling around and prepared for spring quarter.
yup it's going to be freaking busy.
classes + research lab + work out and more

anyway i've been processing the photos i took in new york and i'm done with processing
i'm uploading them on flickr slowly.

here are two panoramas i made.

Panorama of NYC

New York City

the first one is done with my 18-50 mm lens; i only need 3 photos to make the first panorama.
the second one is done with my 105 mm macro lens; it's composed by 11 photos. :D

anyway, i have to go to bed early today because i have 9:30 class tomorrow :(((

Mar 23, 2012

back to Seattle
the flight was fine.
everything went well.
but i miss NYC and the people i met there! :(
i'll be back this summer guys :D

met with Frances and we talked about our break while we were having our late dinner at a sandwich place.

and yeh Seattle is cold and gloomy but but but
the weather became so nice today. must be me LOL jk

anyways, went to research lab today at UW Medicine at South Lake Union
it's pretty cool.
bottles of chemicals and stuff everywhere.
i have to get my access card first though.

went shopping a bit today and last night
got groceries and stuff for spring quarter.

i'm looking forward to spring quarter! i'll be super busy!

Mar 21, 2012

I don't know if I'm sad or angry but I think I feel both.
I'm not blaming anyone or what.
It's just like the things I did in 8 days in new York city were:
Went to 1/8 of central park.
Went to time square for 3 hours
Went to apple store
Went to a park I think it's called waterside or something and took some photo.
Went out and had dinner at several Asian restaurants.

Yup that's all.

Now Andrew is driving me back from a super classy place in New York. It's highline park. It's so late and there are still do many people classy people. Like girls with skirts and high heels. Boys with suits and beards.

So This is our night:
Andrew took me to Webster hall. And the same time we met Miko she gave me a gift and I gave her one too.
And when Andrew and I walked to Webster hall. It's apparently not open.
So Miko suggested us to go to Le Bain.
And we drive there and then the people at the door told us invitation only.
And I think there are two main reasons for that.
1) we look too fucking young
2) we look too fucking Asian

So if I could ever start my life again, I would choose to start college 4 years later than the average.
So instead I'll start my college at 21 years old.
In this way, I'll be stronger. Which means I'll look better and older.
And I'm already old enough to go to clubs and bars.

Yup. Gotta love the lemon life has been throwing at me.

Mar 20, 2012

experienced NYC!

though we went out a little late today, but it was pretty nice!!
walked in a small section of the central park and then went to the apple store.
again, i'm amazed how busy and urbanized this place is.
i told Andrew to promise me to take me to other parts of the Central Park tomorrow.
and i think we are going to SOHO tomorrow as well and hopefully the Empire State Building.
it's going to be awesome!

took some good amount of photos today.
and yeh we went to have dinner with Miko, our high school friend, at a super cool restaurant called Ninja!
it's where Ninjas do magic trick and then scary the hell out of you when you are having dinner with your friends.
should take more photos tomorrow and hopefully more photos of people showing me around.
i want to remember them taking me around the city.

thanks Andrew and Miko. for showing me NYC.
and thanks Gary. for driving us back from downtown Newark haha stupid light rail closes before 2:00 am. but NY subway runs 24 hours which is awesome.

here is one of the photos i took today.
i hope i can get more of this kind of photo. thanks for being my model andrew.

Mar 18, 2012

two 4.0's :D

got 4.0 for biology and stats!! :D
waiting for PHG now.
i think it's probably going to be 3 something.
cuz i'm not like doing outstanding or anything. just average.

gotta thanks Gary

so Gary told us to go out last night and we did end up in NYC
so glad we did go out. hope is coming back!!

so 4 of us went to had a little Japanese place for dinner
super awesome place. i love it!
and then we just walked around and i texted Miko that we wanted to meet her.
and yeh. i met her outside her dorm and then i also got to see her room. so happy to see her!! and she handed me a birthday card. she was trying to find the gift for me, but she couldn't. i said it's fine; you can give it to me later.
then we talked a bit outside her dorm and said bye.

btw it's St. Patrick's day so there're so many people out there wearing green things and singing and yelling and laughing. and DRINKING.

we then took the subway to Time's Square and just walked around and i did bring my camera with me so i got to take some photos!! :D

and on our way back, we took the subway and we drove back.

it was my first time riding the subway and walking in NYC!!
the city is so amazing! even though it was 3 am already. the city is still alive and people were out there having fun!

haha i feel like living in NYC already hahaha. well at first i have to finish school in UW and maybe get a job to earn enough money so i can move to NYC!!
i mean Seattle is a great place too. it's very chill but i would really like to live in NYC at some point in my life.

Mar 17, 2012

i officially give up.

so i feel regret at coming to NJ/NY right now.
cuz i'm sick and my brother is sick.
and what we have been doing were and are sleeping and nothing else (much)

now i can't wait for the school to start
and go work out
and start my research lab work

it's been almost a fucking week and i'm still not fully recovered.
still cough and have sore throat and occasional nausea.
and if my brother get the same illness from me.
he'll probably be sick for a week as well which means that i'm just traveling to NJ for spreading disease.

way to go.

i really don't know what to do now.

i'm tired of how much lemon life has been giving me already.

i was so immature and dumb when i was so looking forward to this trip.
what i didn't know was how everything is not going to turn out right.
yes, nothing in this world is going to turn out right, so i bet this blog post won't be able to be posted successfully because something will be wrong.
i'll be so very lucky if this post gets posted.

suck it.

Mar 15, 2012

second day in NJ

went to bed really late last night.
and woke up all disgustingly sweaty at like 5 or 6 pm.
i am feeling better. but still recovering.

and now Andrew is sick.
he got a fever. 102 F
now it's 100 F
hope he will get better!
he's complaining about sore throat last night. and he said i might get him sick but i argued that it's not possible to get one sick in just 5 hours.

anyway, i don't think that's really important.
at least he gets some to take care of him.
and i'll do my best :)

i survived 2 days of fever myself. so we can do this together!

haha and i spent all day in his room. watching Onion News and video on youtube. texting friends. stumble upon. and nothing else.

Mar 14, 2012

so the first thing i said to Andrew is that
New Jersey feels more American than Seattle.
like i think it's more like a typical American city. like the train. and stuff.
it's much more urbanized comparing to Seattle.

here in New Jersey right now

barely fell asleep last night.
and i was still having a low-grade fever.
woke up at 6:30 am and took a shower
stomach wasn't feeling well so i decided to have my breakfast sometime later.
then i called a cab.

talked a little with the taxi driver on my way to airport
cuz i wasn't feeling really well.
yeh. so much traffic on the way.

checked in my bag and threw away my breakfast i thought i was going to finish... (so wasteful)
went through security checkpoint. bought a bottle of water. then got on board...
i was on board at 8:50 something. barely made it!!!

yeh felt like throwing up and and had a really bad sore throat on the flight.

hmmm... yeh i'm feeling better right now. i think i'm finally recovering.
it's so sunny and warm over here! love it! i'm tired of the gloomy and cold weather in Seattle. isn't it spring time already?

anyway, i just had a dinner with Andrew, his roommate, Gary, and his roommate's girlfriend.
and we saw New York City on our way to the dinner place!

it's so beautiful!! can't wait to walk in the Concrete Jungle!!!

Mar 13, 2012

omg feel like dying.

102.7 F
it's not going down... WTF!!
i really want to postpone my flight to New York. because there's no way i'm getting better tomorrow at 9:05 am.
screw you rules. like why can't i postpone it!?
i bet the world is going to end on Dec. 22, 2012 because by that day. the all people for some reason want to postpone their flight but they can't because of the stupid rules. so everyone goes on the street and protests and the military starts to kill the protesters and human civilization ends.

yes.

officially done for winter quarter!

just took my PHG online final.
i'm officially done with winter quarter!!

hopefully i'll get better tomorrow so i can meet with a post-doc to start my lab work!!!
can't wait to work in a lab! my dream to improve our health is coming true!

and yeh going to bed now!
good night!

Mar 12, 2012

still not feeling well...

102 F!?

bio grade is OUT!!

woohoo 4.0! my hard work paid off!! though my final exam is 84% which isn't awfully awesome. but 4.0 :)
body temp is 99.1 F now
low-grade fever i guess... still not feeling completely well.

i've been reading so many pages of paper for PHG recently and i still have like more then 50 pages to read! so tired of it already.
ahhh... screw it. i'll just take my online final and end my winter quarter.
i'll do laundry first. and take out trash and then i'll start my final.

so cold out there. where is spring!???
hate it... have to stay in all day and feel depressed...

fever....

i felt like i was getting sick last night when i was in the library...
and i was right.
ended up having a 101.2 F fever
so i had to email my lab person telling that i wouldn't be able to make it today.

not fun at all... i was like sweating and having nightmares...

D: what the heck...

i've been listening to this mix on 8track! love this mix!!

it's almost the end of my winter quarter....

so yeh.... i'm pretty lucky this quarter to have my finals all done before most people. i will be pretty done next monday!
just have to finish all those articles from my PHG class.
and yeh since the mid  of my winter quarter, i've started to go work out 3 times a week in IMA.
and i'm gaining weight which is awesome.
i want more muscles!! must keep it up throughout my spring quarter!!

i'll say my winter quarter went pretty well. and my new year resolutions are really being worked on.
though i still think i should spend more time with my roommates!

hmmm... yeh oh! i'll be going to somewhere near downtown this monday for my research lab!
finally, i get to start working!
looking forward to it.

and i'm so excited about my new york trip! can't wait to see my brother and some other friends in New York! again, it's such an amazing place!

yup. have to get back to my reading now... :/
so many to read... :(

i love tums!!!

whenever i feel like throwing up after dinner, i take 2 tums and i feel a lot better afterwards.
most of the time, it works perfectly. i don't remember the time it doesn't work so i'll just keep tums in my pocket all the time! thank you tums, you save me!

i literally looked everywhere in my room and still can't find my bottle/can opener.... .>:(

Mar 9, 2012

putting my winter quarter stuff away

holy shit! so many paper wasted.... well not really wasted but still so many paper used....

half of them is from autumn quarter btw :P

Friday

Just finished my statistics final.
My biology final went well. I guess... like I didnt get some of the questions. I didn't do horrible but i did not do awesome. Whatever.

My statistics went ok. Like I got most of the questions but like few of them are a bit ambiguous
We'll see when the scores come out.

Now I just want to relax! I'm 2/3 to completion. Just get one final left.
Have to read about 10 articles during the weekend for my PHG final, then i will be officially done and I will fly to new York next Wednesday. So excited!! It's the very center of the world, where all kinds of things happen! Amazing place!

And done with statistic note sheet today.
So I'm pretty ready for the finals on Friday!
Woohoo! It's almost over.
But still get articles for PHG to read before next Monday when the online final exam is opened.

Haha spent so much time replying to birthday wishes and stuff ended up just doing the practice problems for biology
but i must reply to the wishes because they totally worth it!
Thanks for the wishes again guys!

- Posted using BlogPress from my iPhone

birthday.

wow. 20? that's like 2 decades on this very Earth!
no longer a teen. (well, i still hope 21 comes soon...)

got so many birthday wishes from my friends via Facebook and text messages and in person.
there're around 100 wishes on my timeline.
thank you all for the wishes. i really do appreciate them! :D

what i expected what today should be like:
wake up, take a shower, go to bio class, study at library while having "breakfast", go to stat class, rush to public health class, have my "lunch", go to bio lab, grab jimmy jones, study at library, go back to dorm, sleep.

but this is what actually happened: (today actually turned out to be awesome)
woke up, took a shower, grabbed "breakfast", went to bio class, study at library while finishing my "breakfast", went to stat class, rushed to public health class, grabbed "lunch", went to bio lab, finished early but i felt awful afterwards... because my new lab partners are not being friendly... i didn't say a word through the whole lab and they didn't even bother to ask for my opinion (well, i know i should talk but... they just keep talking and talking...) D:
went back to dorm, and here came the unexpected....

me, feeling awful, just wanted to avoid any interaction, walked to my room and met my roommate on hallway. they said happy birthday to me. i said thanks.
they asked, "wanna go grab a dinner with us?"
with my head down, trying to fit my keys into the door knob and get into my room as soon as possible
i said, "ummm..." and pushed open the door.
should i? i mean... not even my lab partners care about me.
"i'm actually going to the library later...."
"oh.... do you have a final coming up?"
"yeh... i have like 2 on friday.... so.... yeh"
i glanced into my room and saw a birthday card lying on the floor in my room.
my roommates must have wrote it when i was in class and slide it into my room.
"well, you can always have dinner before finals, i have one tomorrow."
"ummm...."
i started to regret for my first decision.... so i decided to tell them
"sorry... i wasn't being in a good mood.... and yes, i would like to go to dinner with you guys."
"well, if you really want to study. don't force yourself"
"no no... i'm just in a bad mood...."

so yeh. we had pho and talked on our way to the restaurant and back to dorm.
one of my roommate even payed for my dinner... ;)
they made me happy and made me felt worth it.
i'm glad i made the right choice.

i don't know but i have the tendency of closing up myself to the world when something turns me down,
even on my birthday when i'm supposed to be treated well (and treat myself well)

so i started packing up and getting ready to go to the library.
my roommates brought up a birthday cake all of a sudden and sang birthday song to me
;) they're so sweet. i don't know how i should thank them for doing all of this.... i kept saying thank you to them but i still think saying thank you is not enough...

and they said,
"if you're going to the library, we can have the cake later."
i said, "oh no, we can have the cake now. are you guys still hungry?"

so i cut the cake into 9 pieces and we had the cake.
it's so good. taste even sweeter with all the love.

thank you again, Brandon, Michael, Shaina, Philip, Quinn, and Joelle.

bought fried rice
had "breakfast" and continued to work on my note sheet for my statistic final
went to statistic lab
took a bus
went to bank
had money transferred
had a haircut
talk to the barber (she remembered me haha; i'll totally go there for my next hair cut)
went back, changed
and headed to IMA
worked out
had "lunch" with Frances at Jimmy Jones
bought an extra sandwich for "dinner"
went to starbucks got a tall hot chocolate
walked to odegaard library
have been replying to birthday wishes from so many of my Facebook friends since i dunno 8?
but i'm happy they cared.
thanks for the birthday wishes guys!!
first wave of birthday wishes is probably over (because taiwan gets to be march 7th earlier)
i'm ready for the second wave!!! bring it on!!

haha anyway.
yeh finals on friday and i'm pretty done.

Holy Shit!! Best reward from the nature ever!

Right after my study at the library. I found out the floor was wet outside and I was like oh no. Raining...
But as I walked out to the red square. I found out that it's actually snowing!!!!!! Like omg! I can't believe this!!
So beautiful!!
Snow in early March!!!

Best reward for my study!
I'm satisfied now :D

Sunday

Woke up. Took a shower. Then had "breakfast" at 4 something (I define breakfast in terms of sequence of meal, not the time of meal)
Studied a bit so my breakfast was digested.
And then went to IMA at around 6:00.
Worked out and met Joe. My roommate last year!!!
So glad to see him. We talked a bit and he said he is doing material science.

Felt a little bit nausea in the middle of my work out.
No!!!
But I still managed to do all the weight machines.

After work out I decided to take night ride back because I'm not feeling awesome. (stupid stomach)
While i was waiting for the night ride, i went back to ima and took the brochure for night ride. Figured out the night ride schedule with some other people.

Anyway, I'm at a pho place now. Hopefully I can finish my pho... :/
Stomach still acting stupid.
Please let me finish it because I need the calories for muscle!!

Done with statistic readings yesterday.
I'm starting my biology reading today.

thoughts on multi-nationality.

When it comes to nationality, my feelings are mixed.
Yes, it's advantageous. You can exploit resources from different nations and benefit from them.
But I find myself struggling to fit in and relate to both country.
maybe it's just one of my excuse of being socially inactive, but here're my points.

I'm both a Taiwanese and an American but I personally don't think I'm a true Taiwanese nor a true American. I'll say probably part Taiwanese and part American.

It's certainly not a huge problem to anyone or to me.
but sometimes I hold back my decisions because of this.

I hate to think this way but I don't want people to think like
"He's not a real American, he probably doesn't understand."
"He's not a real Taiwanese, he probably doesn't understand."

;/
ok i think i'm thinking too much.
maybe just have to work on my social skill.
since i don't really see this problem when i'm with my friends.

fun saturday.

so when i was ready to study.
Sam knocked on my door and asked me if i wanted to go to Sky High with them.
I had no idea what's sky high is... so i asked him.
he said it's a place where people jump around on trampolines.
sounds fun!
so i said yeh!
(it's this place: http://sea.jumpskyhigh.com/ , in case you don't know either)

it's fun! but there're so many kids like tons of them. and they're all like flipping and flying around.
i was like... wow!
it's was my first time jumping on trampolines. yeh... i didn't grow up in the States so.... (i wish i did though... i missed out so much what an average american would experience through their childhood and teenage)
i feel... awkward? ish?
we jumped and jumped and jumped. we also played dodgeball.

after that we headed for dinner
then back to our dorm.

J brought out a game called "Draw"
it's like you have to draw the thing on the card.
i was super lucky and had 1 or 5 on my dice so i could always draw with my left hand.
it was really fun!
though kind of awkward when i don't know what "skis" are.
i thought it was "skis" (i pronounced it "skiss") but apparently i was totally wrong.
oh man super embarrassing.

yeh this is one of my biggest fear living in the States. it's super embarrassing when i don't know simple words like "skis" like little kids know but i don't know.
man... i really wish i did grow up in the States.

in spite of that,
i spent so much time with my roommates today! which is awesome! and i should do this more often.

yeh that's about it for now.

So tired...

Done with today's studying and it's 2:39 am now
Heading back to my dorm.

I think I've been really tired lately. Like I felt super tired every time when I have to wake up everyday this week.

Still got a lot to read and do...

And we did sexual organ dissection today.
We dissected a testicle and an ovary from cats or dogs or goats...
Kind of disgusting. Like there's blood and stuff but really interesting.

and this was what we saw under a dissecting microscope
It's a testicle cut in half stained with blue dye.
